About Us.

An idea that was inspired by three families over several glasses of wine, all of us wanting the same thing. A good bottle of wine at an affordable price, depicting the life we aspire to live.

Cage Free Vineyards is based off our Shaughnessy Rescue Farm in Arvada, Colorado. We foster animals in need while they wait to find their forever homes. Aside from our original ten chickens, every animal we have has been surrendered to us, not bought, and we love everyone as if it was our own. Shortly after we started the rescue, we realized exactly what these animals were going to need from us and we needed a way to help supplement our hobby of rescuing.

Cage Free Vineyards is just another way to give back to our farm and our animals.

Dean + Jean

We can all agree the leaders of the Shaughnessy family are also the masterminds behind our wine. From having the initial idea to create a wine brand, to giving advice and guidance to the family, this power-couple continues to inspire their kids and their growing clan. Having Cage Free be a family label gives Dean and Jean the confidence in letting their kids take control. Since Dean still runs his brokerage, a lot of his time goes to orchestrating that business. Most of their involvement in Cage Free comes from planning family meetings and filling in whenever, and wherever needed.

Victoria

Although to start a wine label was Dean’s idea, all the inspiration behind Cage Free comes from Victoria’s hobby farm in Arvada, Colorado. What started as a dream a few years ago, Vic made into her day-to-day life; adopting her farmdog “Chief” and becoming a mother to 15+ cage free chickens, and soon to be baby goats. The farm has grown in ways Victoria never thought possible now with chickens, ducks, goats and 2 farm dogs.

Patrick

Although Patrick is the youngest member of the family he still offers a great deal of knowledge, as a certified WSET Level 1 sommelier and the man behind the social media he is not afraid to get out on the farm and help rescue and tend to the animals.
